NAVE sleeping house

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NAVE bedroom is a project by Carlos Martinez Architects (formerly Koeppel Martinez) for the artist group CALC (crowd funded arts leaking cenerosity) from 1997. The project title is derived from the Spanish term for "ship", while NAVE stands for " Net Access Virtual Embarking ".

history

In the course of the opening of the Kunsthaus Bregenz in 1997, CALC had the UFO set up in the middle of the Bregenz lake complex. The NAVE served as a temporary internet terminal and presentation platform. The development of the sleeping quarters and numerous works by various artists could be called up on four computers. After the finissage , the fabric skin of the spatial structure was cut up and the individual pieces were sold.

architecture

The model and inspiration for the dormitory was the Hórreo , a small building raised from the ground that, in its traditional form, served as a granary.

The ellipsoidal structure consists of a wooden plug-in system that can be easily assembled and, like the Asturian “Hórreo”, stands on high legs to make it difficult for unwanted visitors to enter. The building is entered through a fold-out staircase that completely closes the entrance when it is raised. The spaceship-like house has two bedrooms and a bathroom. A self-supporting wooden frame made of six centimeter thick three-layer panels , spanned by cotton fabric, on which a three-layer coating of acrylic varnish was applied, serves as the skeleton .
