NISO Metadata for Images in XML

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

NISO Metadata for Images in XML (short NISO MIX or MIX ) is an XML - metadata format for describing image files and digital image collections.

It defines an exchange format with fields for the elements defined in the NISO Standard Data Dictionary - Technical Metadata for Digital Still Images (ANSI / NISO Z39.87-2006), for example for file size, image resolution and color profile .

NISO MIX is developed and administered as an XML schema - with user support - by the Network Development and MARC Standards Office of the Library of Congress . Version 2.0 of the standard has been available since 2008.

An important application for NISO MIX is the description of image files within METS files (METS: Metadata Encoding & Transmission Standard).
