The NMBS / SNCB series 608 refers to a Belgian internal combustion engine .
history
In 1939, the Belgian state railways NMBS / SNCB received six class 608 combustion railcars from the manufacturer Forges et Fonderies d'Haine-Saint-Pierre after a less powerful prototype of the 607 series had been delivered by the same manufacturer in 1936 . Unlike most other pre-war Belgian railcars, not all vehicles were destroyed in World War II. The railcar 608.05 has been preserved in a museum and, along with a vehicle from the 551 series, is the only surviving railcar from the period before 1940. The exterior of 608.05 has been refurbished and can be viewed in a railway museum in Treignes.
Technology and equipment
The internal combustion engine of the railcar was produced by the manufacturer Carels as a licensed construction of a Ganz . The power is transmitted mechanically . There are 10 seats in the second carriage class and 54 seats in the third carriage class.
