NRJ Music Awards 2008

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ninth edition of the NRJ Music Awards took place on January 26, 2008 . The coveted music prizes were awarded to national (French) and international artists in 12 categories. Since its inception in 2000, the NRJ Music Awards have been one of the most important awards ceremonies in Europe and are organized annually by the French NRJ radio stations in cooperation with the TV broadcaster TF1 .

The awarding of the awards

NRJ-Radio defines the nominees in 12 categories and publishes them to the public on its website. This plays an elementary role in the selection of the winners: With a voting weight of 75 percent, the results of the public elections are included in the final result, which is completed by the voting power of the remaining 25 percent by a jury.

Highlights of the show

The award ceremony shone with a large cast of stars that ranged from Rihanna, Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis and James Blunt to Celine Dion. In addition to some live performances by Kylie Minogue, Celine Dion and other stars, the show also delivered some surprises. For example, the German teen band Tokiohotel prevailed against greats in the music business such as Linkin Park, Maroon 5, P.Diddy & Keyshia Cole and 50 Cent & Justin Timberlake and received the awards in the Best Band category .

In the run-up to the show, there was also speculation in many media whether Britney Spears, who was nominated in the International Album of the Year category with her album Blackout , would appear at the event. Because of her bad mental health, the custody battle over her two sons with Kevin Federline and various drug rumors recently, she stayed away from the show, but won the award in her category.
