Neighbor

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nachbi is a spy from the Naftali tribe in the Old Testament . It is only mentioned in Num 13.14  EU .

etymology

The origin of the name is unclear. In the Masoretic text the name is נַחְבִּי naḥbî . The Septuagint gives the name with Ναβι Nabi , the Vulgate with Naabbi . Martin Noth connects the name with the Arabic naḫbun "fearful" and translates it in this way. He thus places the name in the group of personal names that emphasize spiritual properties.

Biblical narration

In Num 14  EU , Moses is assigned by YHWH to send out spies to explore the land of Canaan , one from each tribe. For the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi is the son Wofsis sent.
