After-run (distillation)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the distillation of wine or fruit brandies , the after- run is the part that arises after the actual centerpiece . The after-run should be separated off carefully, as this part can already contain a high proportion of higher alcohols (so-called fusel oils ), which are not conducive to consumption.

In contrast to the forerun (distillation) , which has a rather unpleasant smell, the components of the afterrun have more fruity and sweet notes.

If this distillation product is consumed, considerable hangover symptoms can be expected in the human body due to the complex breakdown products of the higher alcohols it contains (in substantial amounts iso - octanols to iso - decanols ) .
