Nachman from Horodenka

Nachman von Horodenka (Hebrew נחמן פון האראדענקע; around 1700? - after 1764) was a Hasidic rabbi and confidante of Baal Shem Tov .

Life

Nachman was a rabbi in Horodenka in Galicia . Year and place of birth are unknown. Around 1740 he was with one of his sons for the first time in Israel for two years. On his return he was a close confidante of Baal Shem Tov.

In 1764 he went back to Israel, to Tiberias . There he died, the date of his death is uncertain, possible are the 2nd Tammuz 5525 = 21 June 1765, the 2nd Tammuz 5526 = 9 June 1766, or another date.

His grandson Rabbi Nachmann von Brazlaw was the founder of the Brazlaw Hasidim .
