Nightwear is the collective term for clothes or underwear worn predominantly or exclusively at night for sleeping .

In particular, nightwear includes:

  • Nightdress , a long skirt, mostly worn by women in Europe
  • Pajamas or pajamas , a two-piece, loosely worn robe with buttons
  • Sleep overall , a one-piece sleeping gown, mainly for children
  • Negligee , short nightgown
  • Babydoll , similar to the negligee, short nightgown
  • Sleepyhead , headgear mainly worn in Scandinavia

For current and past wearing habits of nightwear, see the article sleep culture . As can be seen there, other items of clothing are also worn for sleeping, especially sportswear such as tracksuits or shorts . However, these do not count as nightwear in the true sense of the word, as you can use them to show yourself in public.
