The Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau gGmbH (NWSMB) is a foundation for German mechanical and plant engineering with its headquarters in Frankfurt am Main. The foundation was established by the VDW in 2009 as the VDW Young Talent Foundation and has operated under its current name since 2017 as a joint foundation of the VDW and the VDMA . It sees itself as a partner in vocational training and is dedicated to the current challenges of digitization as well as the recruitment of young talent and skilled workers in mechanical and plant engineering. Against the background of its sponsorship, the Young Talent Foundation acts as a contact for around 3,200 companies throughout Germany.
From its two locations in Bielefeld and Tübingen, the Young Talent Foundation implements various projects at local, state and federal level. It employs 34 people.
In 2019, the mechanical engineering foundation celebrated its tenth anniversary.

Certification of vocational schools
In cooperation with the responsible ministries of the federal states, the mechanical engineering foundation has been certifying vocational schools in the field of computer-aided manufacturing since 2011. After successful auditing of the areas of "teacher staff", "equipment", "didactics and methodology" and "learning location cooperation", a quality certificate is awarded by the young talent foundation and the relevant school ministry.
So far, 19 schools across Germany have been certified by the Young Talent Foundation.
