List of breeds of chicken |
The bareback chicken is a breed of domestic chicken .
It originally comes from Transylvania and was further developed in Germany. Due to the misconception that it is a cross between chicken and turkey (Engl. Turkey is), it carries in English-speaking countries known as the "Turks". It is known as a dual-purpose chicken due to its good laying performance of around 180 eggs per year and its good meat set. In addition, its plumage, which can be very differently colored, is relatively easy to pluck after slaughter. The featherless neck typical of the breed is due to a dominant gene.
In addition to the naked neck chicken from Transylvania, there is a similar breed from France, the Forezer naked neck , with which it can easily be confused. The barnacle chicken is considered good forage and immune to most diseases.
