Pin money

Pin money or spill money (from Spille = spindle ) designated as a common German law an amount that gave a man his wife on a regular basis. She could freely dispose of this money for personal purposes and purchases, such as clothing, so to that extent she was not subject to her husband's guardianship . With the nobility it was customary to determine the amount of the spill money by marriage .

Older works also mention the money as needle, spill or truffle money, which daughters receive when they get married in addition to physical equipment and marriage goods.
