Nadia Anjuman

Nadia Anjuman (born December 27, 1980 - November 5, 2005 in Herat ) was an Afghan poet and journalist at the same time .

Life

Nadia Anjuman was studying at the University of Herat when she published her first volume of poetry in 2005 . Gul-e-dodi ( Dark Red Blossom ) became very popular in Afghanistan and neighboring Iran . A second volume of poetry was in preparation for 2006.

On the evening of November 5, 2005, she was beaten so badly by her husband Farid Ahmad Majid Mia in an altercation that she passed out. She was then taken to a hospital, where she died shortly afterwards. According to police officer Nisar Ahmad Paikar, her husband confessed to beating her after an argument. However, his confession did not concern the homicide. It is reported that she lost her life from head injuries.

The United Nations condemned the murder of Anjuman. The spokesman Adrian Edwards said that her death was a great loss for Afghanistan and that the crime must be solved. Her husband has since been arrested on suspicion of homicide.

Nadia Anjuman left a six-month-old child.
