Nadja Grbić

Nadja Grbić (* 1963 in Graz ) works as an assistant professor at the University of Graz at the Institute for Translation Studies in the fields of translation and interpreting studies. Her specialty is sign language interpreting .

Live and act

Grbić studied general linguistics and Slavic studies as well as translation for Serbo-Croatian . Her habilitation thesis deals with the construction of the profession of sign language interpreter in Austria. In addition to sign language interpreting, her research focuses on sociological aspects of translation , translation history and science research using bibliometric methods. At the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz she was significantly involved in the implementation of the curriculum for sign language interpreting and is the project leader of the sign language working group . She was also responsible for international sign language interpreting and sign language lexicography projects. With the creation of a digital specialist lexicon for sign language, Grbić and her working group were able to close a gap in the market in 2005 and contribute to strengthening the position of the deaf in society. Grbić himself called it “a prerequisite for deaf people to be able to participate in the knowledge society”.
