A nail hypoplasia is a symptom for some congenital diseases, in which one, some or all of the finger or toe nails have an anomaly or malformation with too small nails.
Synonyms are: onychohypoplasia; Microonychia; Hypoonychia (from ancient Greek ὄνυξ ónyx , German ' claw , fingernail ' )
Occurrence
Nail hypoplasias have been described for the following syndromes :
- Huriez syndrome
- Osteoonychodysplasia
- Alcohol embryopathy
- Antiepileptic embryopathy
- Ellis van Creveld syndrome
- Coffin-Siris Syndrome
- DOOR syndrome
- Maroteaux-Lamy Syndrome
- Oto-onycho-peroneal syndrome
- Zimmermann-Laband Syndrome
