Nail a pudding on the wall! is a novel by the Austrian children's book author Christine Nöstlinger , which was first published in the summer of 1991 .

The main character is the 13-year-old first-person narrator Katharina, who lives with her parents and her younger brother Benjamin. She suffers from her small size, which is why she is often teased in class.

Katharina's uneventful life changes when a new classmate, Konrad Kurdisch junior, known as "the Koku", joins her class. The two soon become friends. The Koku has a passion: environmental protection. Again and again he runs away from home to become an active member of Greenpeace , but is always turned away on the grounds that he is still too young.

For this, the Koku tries to convert its immediate environment to environmental protection. He has already been expelled from several schools because his overzealousness paralyzed normal classes. Finally, Koku, Katharina and some other classmates found the environmental protection association "The Green Future", which intervenes clandestinely and radically. For example, one night the neighbors have their garden hoses set in concrete to prevent them from wasting water by washing their cars.

Katharina has a very good relationship with her parents and is used to telling them everything. Since they are not allowed to know anything about the actions of the "Green Future", Katharina begins to keep a diary - her "blue, lined notebook" - in which she describes all the common deeds.

Finally everything comes out when Katharina's little brother Benjamin - indignant that he is not allowed to participate - reads the diary and passes it on to his parents. A meeting of horrified parents takes place, but comes to nothing. The Koku packs his things and disappears again.

The end is open; Katharina tries to protect the environment on a small scale - avoiding garbage etc. - and hopes for Koku's return soon.
