The Nagoya-shi Sōgō Taiikukan ( Japanese 名古屋 市 総 合 体育館 ; "Nagoya City General Sports Hall"; Eng. Nagoya Civic General Gymnasium ) is an event complex with a covered multi-purpose stadium for 10,000 spectators in the city of Nagoya in the Japanese prefecture of Aichi . After the naming rights were sold to Nippon Gaishi ( NGK Insulators ) in 2007 , the building has since been called Nippon Gaishi Sports Plaza ( 日本 ガ イ シ ス ポ ー ツ プ ラ ザ , Nippon Gaishi supōtsu puraza ; English Nippon Gaishi Hall ). The operator is the foundation ( zaidan-hōjin ) Nagoya-shi Kyōiku Sports Kyōkai, the "Society for Education and Sports of the City of Nagoya" ( Nagoya City Education and Sports Promotion Agency , NESPA for short), owned by the city of Nagoya.

The building complex in the district of Higashi-Matabēchō in the Minami district of Nagoya was completed in 1987 by the construction company Ōbayashi-gumi . In addition to the 3,646 m² main hall (formerly Rainbow Hall ), it contains two smaller halls with 480 and 200 seats, a 25-meter swimming pool, an archery range and the Nippon Gaishi Forum consisting of several event and conference rooms.

In addition to sporting events, numerous concerts by well-known national and international musicians took place in Sōgō Taiikukan. It has hosted the NHK Trophy in figure skating and international volleyball competitions, the FIVB World Grand Champions Cup and the 1998 and 2010 volleyball world championships several times .
