The Nagoya University of Technology ( Japanese 名古屋 工業 大学 Nagoya kōgyō daigaku , English Nagoya Institute of Technology , short Meikōdai ( 名 工 大 ) or NITech ) is a state university in Japan . It is located in Gokisochō, Shōwa-ku, Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture .

history

In 1905 the Nagoya Higher Technical School ( 名古屋 高等 工業 学校 , Nagoya kōtō kōgyō gakkō ) was founded. It was the fourth oldest of the state technical colleges in Japan after Tokyo (1901), Ōsaka (1901) and Kyoto (1902). It was opened with four departments: civil engineering, architecture, weaving, and dyeing (from 1941 chemical engineering). She later added departments: mechanical engineering (1906), electrical engineering (1929), aeronautical engineering (1939) and evening courses (1942).

In 1944 it was renamed Nagoya Technical Center ( 名古屋 工業 専 門 学校 , Nagoya kōgyō semmon gakkō ). The technical center and the prefecture technical center Aichi ( 愛 知 県 立 工業 専 門 学校 , Aichi-kenritsu kōgyō semmon gakkō , founded 1943) were merged in 1949 to form the Nagoya University of Technology.

The university was opened with the Gokiso main campus and the Chikusa campus (former seat of the prefectural technical center). In 1968 the Chikusa campus was closed; there are now the Kita-Chikusa campus of Municipal Nagoya University and the student residence / field of Nitech ( 35 ° 10 '48 "  N , 136 ° 56' 49.2"  O ). In 1964, the university founded the master’s courses, in 1985 the “doctoral courses”.
