Naha Mint Mouknass

Naha Mint Mouknass ( Arabic الناها بنت حمدي ولد مكناس, DMG an-Nahā bt. Ḥamdī walad Miknās ; * March 10, 1969 in Nouakchott ) is a Mauritanian politician. She was the former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mauritania and held this role from 2009 to 2011.

Life

Naha Mint Mouknass was born in Nouakchott in 1969, the daughter of Hamdi Ould Mouknass , who served as Foreign Minister in the Moktar Ould Daddah government . Her family is part of the El Gor warrior tribe from the Dakhlet Nouadhibou region . She attended the Superior Institute of Management in Paris and graduated in 1995. After graduation, she returned to Nouakchott to work for the local Coca-Cola Company.

In 2000 she became President of the Union for Democracy and Progress . She later became an advisor to President Ould Taya , who supported her in such a capacity between 2000 and 2001. She was then appointed Ministerial Advisor to the Presidency, serving from 2001 to the Taya military overthrow in 2005 .

Naha Mint Mouknass was appointed Foreign Minister on August 11, 2009 , the first woman in Mauritania to head such an important ministry. She succeeded Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou . On March 22, 2011, she was replaced in the office of Hamadi Ould Hamadi .
