Melee cannon 2
The melee cannon 2 is a common vehicle of the Swiss Army , similar to the German tank destroyers from the Second World War .
construction
The tub and the structure were completely cast in armored steel by the Georg Fischer company . The chassis was designed by the Saurer company in Arbon , the chassis was assembled by the Berna company in Olten, and the gun part was designed and assembled by K + W in Thun .
The driver, the commander and the judge sat on the left, the elevator and loader on the right. Four different versions (A1, A2, B1, B2) were planned, but only one type of vehicle was produced. The prototype did not reach military maturity. Only driving tests were made in Thun. The barrel of the cannon could be retracted for the journey . Development stopped in 1947. The guys didn't have a tower, but instead had a fixed structure and a very small swivel range of the cannon. The vehicle had the M-number M0216 and had been used from 1946 to 1947 for trials in military service. A vehicle is exhibited in the Thun tank museum.
