Nearshoring
The term nearshoring ( German Nahverlagerung ) refers to a special form of offshoring . From a Central European perspective, this usually means relocating ( outsourcing ) to Eastern European countries. For North America z. B. Mexico and Brazil nearshoring destinations.
Like offshoring, nearshoring is intended to reduce personnel costs. The monetary advantage due to wage differences is less high than with farshoring (= relocation to low-wage countries further away ). The greater cultural and spatial proximity with almost the same time zone, however, simplifies cooperation considerably. In Europe, jobs are therefore being relocated from Central Europe to so-called low-wage countries in Eastern Europe. With the dissolution of the Eastern Bloc , a production potential has become available for the European market that works in many areas below the cost level of the western industrialized countries. Some Eastern European countries have already been integrated into the new economic area as part of the enlargement of the EU , Serbia is one example. But cooperation is also an option in non- EU countries . Here z. B. Ukraine will play a bigger role in the future.
Nearshoring partners can be found in many areas of the economy. In sectors such as IT or call center services, nearshoring is mainly used to keep personnel costs down.
One possible form of nearshoring is the recruitment of a team of permanent nearshore employees abroad. The advantages here are the simplified communication and cooperation as well as the possibility of closer cooperation compared to farshoring .
Risks
In the IT area in particular, it became apparent that the cost advantages of the significantly cheaper development resources in nearshoring are largely put into perspective by the considerable communication efforts on the client side.
Political and legal framework conditions, particularly with regard to data protection, should also be adequately taken into account when assessing nearshore risks.
