Nanyuki is the capital of Laikipia County in Kenya . It has an estimated 50,000 inhabitants and is located at an altitude of 1986 meters at the foot of Mount Kenya on the equator . Nanyuki was founded in 1907 by British settlers and has been the main base of the Kenyan Air Force since 1974 .

Nanyuki is a possible starting point for Mount Kenya ascent and cross-mountain tours as guided hut hikes. Nanyuki offers a safari park, "Sweetwater Game Reserve", which can be entered with your own car or rental car. The park shows many African wild animals roaming free.
