Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway
The Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway was a British railway company based in Pembrokeshire , Wales .
history
The Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway was established on June 24, 1872. The initiator was the member of parliament and owner of a slate quarry Edward Cropper . Since he financed the construction of the route together with the slate mine owner Macauley, only a permit from the Board of Trade was necessary and no law from parliament. The company built a railway line from Narberth Road (near Clynderwen ) via Maenclochog to the slate quarries near Rosebush in the Presceli Hills . The 13-kilometer line was opened on September 19, 1876. In Narberth Road there was a connection to the Great Western Railway . The main purpose of the route was to remove the broken slate, but passenger transport was also offered. The cost of the railroad and the quarry development was estimated at £ 60,000.
The Rosebush and Fishguard Railway planned to take over the company in 1881 to create a railway line between Clynderwen and the port of Fishguard . This project failed and was not implemented until 1884 by the North Pemroke and Fishguard Railway . This acquired the Narberth Road and Maenclochog Railway.
