The Narsarsuaq Museum ( Danish Narsarsuaq Museum , Greenlandic Narsarsuup Katersugaasivia ) is the local museum of Narsarsuaq .

history

The museum was founded in 1991 by a local citizens' initiative and is still in private hands today. Narsarsuaq is by far the smallest place in Greenland with its own museum.

building

The museum is located in building B-13. It is the only protected building in the village and was built in 1942. It is also home to the Blue Ice Café , which is the starting point for adventure trips in the area.

exhibition

The Narsarsuaq Museum specializes in two subject areas. The most important part deals with the history of the US military base Bluie West-1 between 1941 and 1958, to which the village goes back. The other part deals with the history of the Grænlendingar between the 10th and 15th centuries, who lived on the Tunulliarfik fjord , on which Narsarsuaq is located.
