Nose ring
A nose ring is a ring that runs through the nasal septum of animals and is used for a variety of reasons.
Domestic cattle
Brass rings are occasionally inserted into the nasal septum of bulls to be able to tame them better. The nose is a very sensitive area on the body. The ring is a so-called "coercive measure" that is used when the cattle begin to fight back.
In the case of calves, a so-called suction stop nose ring is used to prevent the calf from having access to the milk. This makes it easier to separate the calf from the mother. More often the Saugstopper is applied to heifers in the group housing prevent them from intersucking other heifers.
Dancing bears
This practice is common with dancing bears . The bear is chained to the nose ring. The ring also serves as a fastening for a leash on which the bear is led.
Domestic pig
Nose rings in pigs are supposed to prevent rooting.
