Nasser al-Shamrani ( Arabic ناصر الشمراني, DMG Nāṣir aš-Šamrānī ; * November 23, 1983 in Mecca ) is a Saudi Arabian soccer player who plays as a striker for Ittihad FC and the Saudi Arabian national team. Al-Shamrani is considered to be one of the best footballers the country has produced. In 2014 he was named Asia's Footballer of the Year .
Career
society
Nasser began playing for al-Wehda first team in the 2003/04 season at the age of 20 . In 2006 it was given to al-Shabab . During these months, Al-Shamrani was able to prove himself as a striker. In the AFC Champions League he scored 4 goals and was able to help the team qualify for the quarter-finals. In the league, he scored 3 goals in 6 games. After the end of the season, Al-Shabab was impressed with his performance and tried to commit him firmly but Al-Wehda refused and he returned to al-Wehda after the 2006/07 season.
Nasser had one of his best seasons with al-Wehda and was able to score 9 goals in the Saudi Professional League . He helped his team to reach third place in the league. At the end of the season, Al-Wehda had financial problems. Al-Shabab offered Nasser 13 million riyals (approx. 2.8 million euros). Al-Wehda agreed and Nasser moved to al-Shabab at the beginning of the 2007-08 season. In the following 6 seasons he was able to win the Saudi championship twice and was top scorer in the Saudi Professional League four times.
On June 30, 2013, he signed a three-year contract with al-Hilal Saudi Club . After losing the 2014 AFC Champions League final, he spat on Western Sydney Wanderers player Matthew Spiranovic before attempting to beat him. As a result of his behavior, Al-Shamrani was suspended from the AFC Champions League for eight games by the Asian Football Association .
In 2017 he moved to Al-Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates as a loan player for six months . In 2017 he returned to al-Shabab.
He has been playing for Ittihad FC since 2019.
National team
Al-Shamrani made his debut for his country's senior team in 2005. He has since scored 19 goals in 78 international matches.
