The National Folk Museum of Korea is a museum in South Korea . Located on the grounds of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Jongno-gu , Seoul , it uses replicas of historical objects that show the history of the Korean people.

The director is Jingi Cheon.

history

The museum was founded in 1924 by Yanagi Sōetsu . This name was later changed by the US government on November 8, 1945. The museum was originally located on Mount Namsan, and later moved to Gyeongbokgung in 1975. The current building was built in 1972 and housed the National Museum of Korea until 1986. It was remodeled and reopened as the National Folk Museum in 1993. The design of the building is based on various historical buildings around South Korea.

The museum has three exhibition halls, and it also houses a children's museum and an open-air exhibition.
