The National Offshore Petroleum Safety Authority (NOPSA) is the Australian authority based in Perth .

It monitors and controls the safety and occupational health and safety regulations of crude oil and natural gas plants off the Australian coast (offshore) and maintains a reporting system for the Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP). She began her duties on January 1, 2005. Its headquarters are in Perth , Western Australia .

history

In 1999, the Australian government commissioned the inspection of the safety of offshore oil and gas production facilities, in response to the government's 1998 statement on the matter. At the same time, the government and the government of the Northern Territory Individual safety regulations and instructions on how to behave are continuously issued on this issue.

The Federal Government's mandate, which was carried out by an Independent Review Team (IRT), comprised an examination of the effectiveness and the proposal to set up a security agency. The IRT questioned the operators of the offshore plants, executing agencies and management as well as state regulatory and federal authorities. On May 22, 2003, the government agencies that already existed on this question were combined in the Transitional Plan and thus the NOPSA was not only responsible for the regional Australian offshore waters, but was given responsibility for the entire Australian coast and it took its own Work on January 1, 2005.

Security requirements

The NOSPA is responsible for monitoring the occupational safety and security of the offshore facilities, ensuring occupational safety and security rules of the oil and gas industry off the Australian coast. It is responsible for reducing the bureaucratic burdens of the oil and gas industry in the operation and approval of the plants, which are affected by various legal regulations, in order to provide a consistent and comprehensive health and safety system.

Every offshore installation has to develop a safety plan that has to be checked and approved by NOPSA. This plan should help to minimize the safety risks on the plants and it should also be practicable. The operators of the systems have the basic task of operating their systems safely and without health risks.
