National Resistance Army

National Resistance Army ( NRA ; German  National Resistance Army ) is the name of a rebel group , which the armed struggle against the in the early 1980s regime of Milton Obote in Uganda began. After Tito Okello took power in 1985 , the NRA continued its fight after a brief truce . The National Resistance Movement (NRM) was established as the political wing of the movement .

The NRA was led by Yoweri Museveni , who was able to take power in Uganda in 1986. The Museveni government was legitimized in the 1996 presidential elections and the NRA was renamed the Uganda People's Defense Force .

As in many other African resistance movements , there were child soldiers in the ranks of the NRA .
