The National Taiwan University Hospital ( Chinese  國立 台灣 大學 醫學院 附設 醫院 , Pinyin Guólì Táiwān Dàxué Yīxuéyuàn Fùshè Yīyuàn , NTUH, University Hospital of Taiwan State University ) in Taipei is one of the oldest and largest academic teaching hospitals in Asia . The hospital is part of the Medical Faculty of Taiwan State University. The facility, which has existed since 1895, is one of the leading hospitals in the Chinese-speaking area in terms of diagnostic options, available treatments, nursing and research.

history

The hospital was founded by the Japanese in 1895 and was the largest hospital in East Asia at the time. This makes the NTUH the oldest and largest general hospital in Taiwan.

NTU Hospital

Since its inception, the facility has been shaped by Japanese and German hospital organizations. Since Japanese medicine was strongly based on the German model, the German language was the language of medical professionals until the end of the Second World War . For example, doctors described the patient's symptoms from the anamnesis interview in German. In addition to Japanese, German was also the language of the academic landscape. Numerous results from the research carried out here have been published in German and Japanese.

After the Second World War, the hospital switched to the US system. The Americans supported the restructuring of the hospital and promoted academic exchanges. The role of Japanese and German in medicine was replaced by Chinese and English, although many doctors still spoke Japanese after the wars.

Certification

The hospital meets the criteria for hospital certification according to world standards.
