National Wildlife Federation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF) is the largest environmental protection organization in the United States . The organization has more than five million members and an annual budget of more than 125 million USD (2006).

The National Wildlife Federation was founded in 1936 after US President Franklin D. Roosevelt convened the first conference on North American flora and fauna. Until the 1960s, the National Wildlife Federation was a largely non-political organization that was mainly involved in the maintenance and protection of nature reserves . After a broad public debate about the publication of Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring (Silent Spring) , the organization clearly politicized, and today more than ever in the political debate in part.

The National Wildlife Federation is, among other things, the editor of an extensive series of publications.
