The National Polytechnic University of Armenia ( Armenian Հայաստանի ազգային պոլիտեխնիկական համալսարան ) is a state university based in the Armenian capital Yerevan . It also operates branch offices in Gyumri , Vanadzor , Goris and Kapan . From 1991 to 2014 the university was named Armenia State Engineering University ( Armenian Հայաստանի Պետական ​​Ճարտարագիտական ​​Համալսարան ).

history

The university was founded as the Yerevan Polytechnic Institute in 1933 with two faculties and 107 students. The institute developed parallel to the industrialization of Armenia and reached the peak of its development between 1980 and 1985 with around 25,000 students and more than 66 departments. This made the institute the largest university and one of the leading technical universities in the Soviet Union . In the course of 75 years of existence, more than 100,000 graduates have successfully completed the university.

In response to the changed political and economic environment, the institute was reorganized in 1991 and became the State Engineering University of Armenia.

The university endeavors to build up and maintain a dense international scientific network.
