National Book Center of Greece

The National Book Center of Greece ( Greek Εθνικό Κέντρο Βιβλίου Ethniko Kendro Vivliou , ΕΚΕΒΙ) also National Book Center Athens was founded in 1994 in Athens to promote the publication and distribution of books in Greece . It is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and is supervised and promoted by this. The events and facilities of the ΕΚΕΒΙ are carried out by people who work in the field of journalism and publishing . The Greek national debt crisis has also hit the National Book Center heavily.

purpose

The main purpose of the center is to define, design and implement national policies to promote books and reading. In addition, the Ε.ΚΕ.ΒΙ. the aim of supporting the Greek book trade abroad.

National Book Center Libraries

Bibliological library

The collection of the Bibliological Library ( Βιβλιολογική βιβλιοθήκη ) is dedicated to book studies and is aimed at representatives of publishers and publicists at home and abroad.

Library of the Stratis Tsirkas

The Stratis Tsirkas Library ( Βιβλιοθήκη Στρατή Τσίρκα ) houses part of his private library that his widow donated to the book center in 1998.

Library of Translated Greek Books

The Library of Translated Greek Books ( Βιβλιοθήκη Μεταφρασμένων Ελληνικών Βιβλίων ) collects translations of Greek books and also includes the volumes of the Archive of Translations of Greek Books ( Αρχείο Μελλληνω ίβλώνω βλώνων . It gives an overview of the presence of Greek literature abroad.

Activities and services

The Ε.ΚΕ.ΒΙ. participates in Greek book fairs and has taken on the task of promoting the Thessaloniki International Book Fair ( Διεθνής Έκθεση Βιβλίου Θεσσαλονίκης ) and the Children's and Youth Book Fair ( Έκθεση Παιδ, λ, λικού και Εφυβικού φηβικης ) to promote and organize the international book trade in Greece. Through special and traveling exhibitions presented by Greek writers, the center helps to celebrate public relations work for various World Days such as World Poetry Day ( Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Ποίησης ) or World Children's Book Day ( Παγκόσμιβα Ημέρα ίουλικα Ημέρα ίουλικι visits organized by ΠαγκΠσμια Ημέρα Ποίησης ) by writers and illustrators in schools. The establishment of the “Observatory for Digital Books” ( Παρατηρητήριο Ψηφιακού Βιβλίου ) at the end of 2010 aims to inform experts about developments in the field of digital books. Workshops and seminars are also held for this purpose.

Vivlionet

"Vivlionet" ( Βιβλιονέτ Vivlionét ) is a publishing service that was also set up in 1998 and was initially operated by 45 publishing houses and the Book Publishers Association (Σύλλογος Εκδοτών Βιβλίων, Σ.ΕΚ.Βλ.), the Athens Book Publishers Association (Σηλωνγβννν οβωνΕν οβτν οβω οτν ΒοτΑνΒν Εο νώον ςο Ανώον γο β νώον ο β νώονδ οο νον ο β ώνοον ώο Α νοον οο Α νοονδ ο νον δοτν. Β.Α.), the Panhellenic Association of Book Publishers (Πανελλήνια Ομοσπονδία Εκδοτών Βιβλιοπωλών, Π.Ο.Ε.Β.) and the National Book Center. In 2003 the Ε.ΚΕ.ΒΙ. the exclusive rights and decided to make the provided materials available free of charge. The online service informs users about problems in the publishing world and provides information on 170,000 book titles and 82,000 authors published in Greece. More than 50 online bookstores are built on the Vivlionet fundamentals.

Publications

The Ε.ΚΕ.ΒΙ. publishes an English-language online magazine called Ithaca Online , which promotes Greek book production for foreign publishers, and the newspaper Mikros Anagnostis (Μικρός Αναγνώστης, Little Reader), which is aimed at children, and a blog.

  • Implementation of the Greek letters (Ελληνικά Γράμματα) on the Internet
  • “Culture” program 2007–2013 (Πρόγραμμα «Πολιτισμός» 2007–2013) of the European Commission
Additional programs

In addition, the Creative-Professionals Support Program (Προγράμματα ενίσχυσης δημιουργών – επαγγελματιών) was developed. As part of this program, the Franco-Greek program to support Greek and French writers, translators and publishers was launched.
