The Alerce Costero National Park is located in the Región de Los Ríos in the Andean state of Chile . The park primarily protects original Valdivian rainforest . In the park there are ancient specimens of the Patagonian cypress that gives it its name .

A gravel road leads through the park, opening up various short to medium-length hiking trails. A bus to Corral runs four times a day from Chaihuin directly at the park entrance . The latter is connected to the Valdivia bus network via a ferry. Two of the hiking trails are within walking distance from Chaihuin.
