The Región de Los Ríos (or XIV. Region ) is one of the currently 16 regions of Chile . It borders in the north on the Región de la Araucanía , in the east on Argentina , in the south on the Región de los Lagos and in the west on the Pacific . The region is naturally located in the Little South of Chile.

It was created from the former province of Valdivia, which until then had been part of the Región de los Lagos . A corresponding law came into force on October 2, 2007. The new region has an area of ​​18,429.5 km² and a population of 384,837 people (2017 census). The capital of the region is Valdivia . The region is divided into the provinces of Valdivia and Ranco (capital La Unión ).

The region was a focus of German immigration to Chile in the 19th and 20th centuries .
