The Private Pedagogical University of the Diocese of Linz (PHDL) is a pedagogical university supported by the Diocese of Linz , which is dedicated to the training and further education of elementary , secondary and special school teachers as well as religious teachers.

Architecture and art in construction

The low, terraced university building and an irregular floor plan with striking shed roofs and skylights and a monumental outside staircase was built from 1970 to 1975 according to the plans of the architects Franz Riepl and Othmar Sackmauer. The internal structure and design is in the style of postmodernism. The winding access routes over two floors are connected by several stairs. The construction element was made of exposed concrete. The round elevator shafts and spiral staircases were made in red.

The auditorium as the largest lecture hall is a bright room with the shed roofs.

In contrast, the square chapel was under a tent roof with skylight openings, which deliberately illuminate the chapel little. On the inside of the roof in 1970 the painter Giselbert Hoke painted the subjects of the Tower of Babel, Crucifixion, Last Supper and Mary. The rural-style lecture cross was designed by the sculptor Jakob Kopp .

In the foyer there is a multi-part abstract mural without a title by the painter Alois Riedl from 1985.

Fields of study

  • At the University of Education there are training courses in elementary education, primary level teaching, secondary teaching and religion teaching.

The admission requirements include the final examination of an AHS or BHS , a passed university entrance qualification test and general suitability for the teaching profession as well as mandatory study advice.
  • In addition, the university is also home to some schools: the practice elementary school, the practice secondary school , a Sozialpädagogisches College and the School for social occupations Caritas.
  • The university also serves as a conference location, for example e-education conferences are held here. In 2008 the long-term IMST project (Innovations Make Schools Top!) Met here.
