Sodium spoon

Sodium spoons are used in school lessons and during experimental lectures to push sodium under the surface of the water and to collect the rising hydrogen gas pneumatically (e.g. with a eudiometer ). Spoons with a hemispherical copper wire mesh as a hollow are used for this .

Security notice

The literature does not recommend using spoons made of two hemispherical nets, which you can press together with a ring to form a ball after inserting the piece of sodium, as there is a risk of oxyhydrogen gas explosions because the air escapes too slowly after submersion. The mesh size of the sieve should also not be too small.
