Soda lime

Granulated soda lime (3–5 mm)

Soda lime is a mixture of sodium hydroxide ("caustic soda", NaOH) and calcium hydroxide ("slaked lime", Ca (OH) ₂ ). Soda lime is particularly in the quantitative elemental analysis used in which it as a carbon dioxide - absorbent is used. It also serves as a so-called soda lime in the filters of rebreather devices to bind the exhaled CO ₂ .

The reaction equations for the absorption of carbon dioxide are:
