Only 35 km away is the oldest national park in Spain, the Picos de Europa .

Ecosystems

There are different landscapes within the park boundaries. The cliffs are between 10 and 50 meters high. There is also an area with open beaches, such as Merón and Oyambre beaches, and another with inlets such as Playa San Vicente or La Rabia. Then there are the inlets of San Vicente and La Rabia, which represent another ecosystem. The most diverse and biologically most valuable section is certainly the boggy coastal area. Then there are the areas with dunes. Finally, there are also those mountain ridges that are covered with meadows and fed by streams. The fauna and vegetation of the park are very different depending on the ecosystem. There is a species-rich occurrence of birds of prey that nest on the cliffs, but also numerous species of migratory birds in the swampy coastal area.

activities

The Oyambre Natural Park offers numerous leisure activities. Many hiking and cycling trails open up the Oyambre nature park and its mountains and valleys. The long beaches of Merón and Oyambre attract many tourists and are known for water sports, especially surfing . Due to its northwest orientation, the beach is known for constant waves even in the summer months. International bike races also run through the nature park and there are several golf courses. The estuaries are known for canoeing and rafting tours.
