The Brucebo nature reserve has existed on the Swedish island of Gotland since 1970 . It is about three miles north of Visby , near the airport, west of the coastal road (149). The name is derived from the nearby Brucebo country estate , to which the area belonged until 1972. The 33 hectare nature reserve and Natura 2000 area is dominated by a cliff edge that runs parallel to the beach a few hundred meters away. Skans Udde is a rocky peninsula that protrudes into the Kalmar Sound in the middle of the nature reserve .
Above the cliff there is predominantly pine vegetation. In this forest there are remains of a Fornburg (ancient castle). In the cliffs in the northern part of the site there are many grottos, of which Brucegrottan is the most famous. Below the cliff, the ground is more humid and the vegetation is lush. In several places water gushes out of the ground and forms small rivulets and about 2 hectares of water.
