Listen to Naujoji Akmenė ? / i ( German Neu Akmenen ) is a town and seat of the Rajongemeinde Akmenė ( Akmenės rajono savivaldybė ) in northern Lithuania not far from the border with Latvia . The city name means Neu-Akmene - it is a newly created planned city in connection with industrial settlements. There's a big cement plant there. Asbestos products used to be manufactured, now Eternit products instead of asbestos roofing. In 1962, the then county administration was moved from Akmenė to Naujoji Akmenė. With the Lithuanian administrative reform of 1995, the self-governing communities were created, the layout of which is strongly based on the previous Rajons. As a result, the district became a district community.
