Naval Security Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Naval Security Group , or NAVSECGRU for short , was an intelligence unit of the United States Navy . Her tasks included listening to radio signals and other electronic messages as well as analyzing and decoding them ( signals intelligence ). It was active from 1950 to September 2005 and then went on in the Naval Network Warfare Command (NETWARCOM). The Naval Security Group was not only part of the Navy, but also part of the Central Security Service of the National Security Agency .

The ECHELON system was one of her worldwide areas of responsibility . A corresponding document from the Naval Security Group Command in Sugar Grove , West Virginia, from 1992 made ECHELON known in 2000.
