Navient one is American provider of student loans , which with a total of 300 billion US dollars approximately 25% of student loans in the United States managed. The company is part of the S&P 500 . Navient emerged in 2014 from the student loan division of Sallie Mae (Student Loan Marketing Association), which shifted its focus to retail banking.

Navient has been the subject of more than 10,000 complaints since 2011, for example by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau . Among other things, several cases were publicly discussed in which the company attempted to collect the outstanding loans from relatives of deceased debtors . The company also received criticism from activists who deal with student loans. The company received recognition for the high proportion of women on the supervisory board .
