The Nea Smyrni Stadium ( Greek : Στάδιο Νέας Σμύρνης ) is a stadium in Nea Smyrni , a southern suburb of Athens . It is mainly used for football matches and is the home stadium of Panionios Athens in the Greek Super League . The stadium has 11,700 seats and was built in 1939. Before the 1998 seats were installed for Panionios Athens to participate in the European Cup Winners' Cup , it had a capacity of 20,000 seats; the attendance record is 20,950 and was set up in 1974 in the game between Panionios Athens and Panathinaikos Athens . The stadium is allowed to host matches of the UEFA Europa League .
