A halterneck is a pseudo-Anglicism and a fashion term for off-shoulder women's outerwear, which in correct English is referred to as halter neck or halter neck .

This garment exposes the entire shoulder and back area and is tied in the neck, hence the Germanized term, which is made up of neck (= neck) and to hold (= to hold). The original halter neck was only tied at the neck, so the size could be adjusted to the wearer. Another variant are tops in which the straps are sewn together, which means that the clothing size is no longer variable. However, both variants are available.

Neckholder come in different shapes. In the 1950s, halter necks were the fashion trend that has persisted to this day. The most famous halternecks are: halterneck bikinis, halterneck swimsuits, halterneck shirts, halterneck bras, halterneck dresses, halterneck evening dresses and halterneck wedding dresses.

Trivia

The most famous white halterneck dress comes from the film The 7th Year Itch from 1955, in which the dress of actress Marilyn Monroe was blown up by the exhaust air of a street shaft.
