Negative White is a Swiss online magazine that mainly deals with cultural topics. The website was founded in 2009 by the brothers Nicola and Janosch Tröhler.
The online magazine primarily focuses on concert reports, reviews of albums and interviews with artists, including internationally known musicians such as Paul McCartney , White Lies , Danko Jones and Gabi Delgado .
history
In autumn 2009 the brothers Nicola and Janosch Tröhler founded the online magazine Negative White. The name has its origin in a well-known saying of the Gothic scene : "White is also only negative black."
The online magazine started on January 1, 2010 with a report on a concert by the Swiss rock band Spencer . In the first year, the reporting was mainly limited to the Swiss Gothic scene. In May 2011 the editorial team switched from its own CMS to Wordpress and opened up to other musical styles such as pop. The literature department was introduced for this purpose.
In 2014 the website was redesigned again and a new logo was introduced. The magazine was expanded to include the “Life” section. Since December 2014, Negative White has been offering an English-language website under the name “Negative White International”, which differs from the German version in terms of content.
The non-commercial association Negative White was founded on March 24, 2017 and has been publishing the online magazine since then.
Business model
Negative White employees work on a voluntary basis. In order to cover the costs of the infrastructure, the online magazine offers partnerships with organizers. In 2017 Negative White launched a membership model and a web shop with its own merchandise.
Range
Negative White does not publish exact readership numbers. According to its own information, the medium reached around 92,500 unique visitors in the first five years .
In 2014 the magazine reached around 2900 unique visitors a month.
According to the Kuble AG ranking, Negative White is one of the 20 most influential media brands on social platforms .

According to its own information, Negative White published over 10,000 photos between 2010 and 2015.
Since 2011 Negative White has been a recognized youth medium in the Association of Young Journalists Switzerland, formerly Young Media Switzerland.
