Nemo is the file manager of Linux - desktop environment Cinnamon . It was split off from version 3.4 of the Nautilus file manager because the Linux Mint developers found Nautilus 3.6 disastrous.
The name "Nemo" comes from Captain Nemo with his submarine Nautilus from the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne . According to the developers, nobody is better suited than "Nemo" to move Nautilus in a different direction.
Features
For the first version of Nemo, the developers implemented some features that distinguish Nemo from Nautilus 3.6 . The main difference is that the features removed in Nautilus 3.6 have been added back. Some other features have also been added. For example, the user can open a terminal in the current directory or a new window with administrator rights directly from the context menu . Tabs can also be used to easily manage multiple directories.
Like Nautilus, Nemo can also be expanded with numerous plugins , for example to share folders in the network via Samba or to encrypt or compress files directly in the file manager.
