The Netherlands Bach Collegium , also The Bach Orchestra of the Netherlands and later developed into The Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands through the integration of a professional mixed choir , is an ensemble based in the Netherlands that specializes in baroque music and especially the music of Johann Sebastian Bach specializes in.

history

The ensemble was founded in 1994 by the Dutch conductor Pieter Jan Leusink as the Netherlands Bach Collegium and is still directed by him today. In the first few years the ensemble played with the Holland Boys Choir , an amateur boys choir founded by Leusink in 1984. In particular, Leusink recorded all Bach church cantatas with the orchestra and this boys' choir in 1999/2000 . In 1995 Leusink founded the mixed adult choir The Bach Choir of the Netherlands . In 2006 he integrated the orchestra and this professional choir to form The Bach Choir and Orchestra of the Netherlands .

Under the direction of Pieter Jan Leusink the ensemble made numerous recordings. The many years of experience of the musicians involved in concert and recording practice in the field of baroque music, especially with regard to J. S. Bach's compositions, guarantee a characteristic performance that is characterized by a high degree of authenticity.

The recording of all church cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach of the Netherlands Bach Collegium together with the Holland Boys Choir in 15 months between 1999 and 2000 under the direction of Pieter Jan Leusink for the Brilliant Classics label using historical instruments represented a new quality in the work of Ensembles. "The almost purely Dutch ensemble manages to implement the cantatas " full of haunting radiance "and" illuminating moments "[...]." In other Dutch passages, the project was heavily criticized for inferior, hasty work and unsurpassed commercialism evoked in the field of music. Other critics assumed that Leusink was systematically overburdening the young amateur choir. The CD boxes for this recording were initially sold through a drugstore chain. The publication of the first boxes made the criticism, especially from abroad, increasingly cheaper.
