New Cologne – Koblenz line

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The new Cologne-Koblenz was a planned rail - new line between Cologne and Koblenz . The project pursued in the first half of the 1980s was the follow-up project to the new Cologne – Groß-Gerau line that failed in 1978 .

The new Cologne – Rhine / Main line , which went into operation in 2002 , emerged from it around 1985 .

history

After a positive business and economic assessment, the project was included as a new project in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 1980 . The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan led the Cologne - Koblenz section of the new Cologne - Groß-Gerau line with investment costs of 3.5 billion DM. As a Stage II project , it was one of those projects that were to be implemented after 1990.

In 1980 planning and coordination with the planning authorities concerned began to prepare for the regional planning procedure . The detailed planning for the project was initially postponed in order to concentrate the planning capacities on the new Hanover – Würzburg line under construction . A decision about the continuation of the planning should be made as part of the update to the next federal transport infrastructure plan.

Around 1983 the length of the route was given as 101 km.

In the mid-1980s, planning was resumed in the form of a new line between Cologne and Frankfurt. The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 1985 contained a new line Cologne - Rhine / Main as a new project in urgent need with investment costs of 5.445 billion DM (at the price level of 1983).
