Neue Strasse 22/24

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The houses at Neue Strasse 22 and 24 in Schwäbisch Hall formed a single building complex around the year 1200.

description

The building complex was one of the oldest stone buildings in Schwäbisch Hall . Of this, the basement 7 m × 7.5 m has been preserved, which was designed as a rectangular floor plan and was built in an exact north-south orientation. The walls consist of staggered limestone blocks. The quality of the work is significant: "Not yet proven in a comparable execution in Schwäbisch Hall [...] For the previous comparison bases in Schwäbisch Hall, an unusual quality can be determined in the stone processing on the object, which allowed a perfect joint pattern when the brittle limestone material was reworked. “ The gate-like access to the building is made of sandstone blocks. Here, too, the quality of the work is important because it shows the same in sacred buildings in Schwäbisch Hall: “The block material has been finely worked over with a toothed iron. Comparable stone processing could be raised on the Romanesque sound arcades of St. Michael and St. Katharina. "
