The New Synagogue was a synagogue on Wilhelmsplatz (today plac Wolności - Freedom Square ) in Mysłowice (then Myslowitz).

description

The sacred building had a two-tower facade with a Star of David in the facade and was designed in a Moorish or neo-Romanesque style. It was a "miniature version" of one of the largest synagogues in the Czech Republic, the Great Synagogue in Pilsen .

history

The sacred building was built in a four-year construction period from 1855 to 1859 according to plans by the government master builder Ignatz Grünfeld on Wilhelmsplatz, which is central to urban development. On September 10, 1899, the inauguration of the new synagogue took place with a ceremony, after which the old synagogue was bid farewell with a farewell service. After this service, the parade gathered in front of the sacred building, with the civil and Christian dignitaries of the city being present. On the day of the inauguration, all shops in town were closed. In front of the new synagogue, the government master builder Ignatz Grünfeld presented the first mayor, Isaak Kuznicki, with the gilded key to the main portal. Kuznicki then asked the mayor to open the main gates of the sacred building, a request that the mayor complied with. After the service there was a big banquet near Grünwald, attended by 150 people.

Unlike other synagogues, the synagogue was not built in the same place as the old synagogue.

From 1899 to 1907 Rabbi Joseph Norden worked in the Jewish community .

The synagogue was destroyed in 1939.
